Skill: Easy
Size: About 7½” wide by 9½” long.
Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton: Red – 1½ oz, 75 yd (45 g, 69 m) Green – ½ oz, 25 yd (15 g, 23 m) Brown – ½ oz, 25 yd (15 g, 23 m)
Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.00 mm)
To Change Colors
Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color, yo and pull new color through remaining lps on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
Special Stitches
Single Crochet Decrease: (sc dec): Draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through 3 lps on hook.
DISHCLOTH
Row 1: (Right side) With Red, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [sc in next ch] across. (12 Sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. (12 sc)
Rows 3-5: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc. (14, 16, 18 sc)
Rows 6-7: Rep Row 2. (18 sc)
Rows 8-9: Rep Row 3. (20, 22 sc)
Rows 10-20: Rep Row 2. (22 sc)
Row 21: Rep Row 3. (24 sc)
Rows 22-24: Rep Row 2. (24 sc)
Top Right Curve:
Row 25: Sc dec, sc in next 7 sc, sc dec; leave rem sts unworked. (9 sc)
Row 26: Sc dec, sc in next 5 sc, sc dec. (7 sc)
Row 27: Sc dec, sc in next 3 sc, sc dec. (5 sc)
DO NOT TURN
Top Left Curve:
Rows 25-27: Sl st in side of each row of Top Right Curve and in next 2 sc of Apple Row 24. Rep Rows 25-27 of Top Right Curve. At the end of Row 27, finish off and weave in ends.
Border
With right side facing, join R with sc in first unused lp of starting ch, sc in same lp as joining, working in unused lps of starting ch, hdc in next lp, 3 dc in next lp, hdc in next lp, sc in next lp, sl st in next 2 lps, sc in next lp, hdc in next lp, 3 dc in next lp, hdc in next lp, 2 sc in next lp; working around apple, sc in sides of each row and in sts around top curves; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Stem
With Brown, ch 20, dc in 4th ch from hook, [dc in next ch] across. Finish off, leaving long end.
Leaf
With Green, ch 15, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next ch, 2 dtr in next ch, dtr in next ch, 2 dtr in next ch, tr in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, (sl st, ch 1, sl st) in next ch; working in unused lps of starting ch around other side, sc in next lp, hdc in next lp, dc in next lp, tr in next lp, 2 dtr in next lp, dtr in next lp, 2 dtr in next lp, tr in next lp, dc in next lp, hdc in next lp, sc in next lp, sl st in next lp. Finish off, leaving long end.
Finishing – Use photo as a guide
- Fold Stem in half to make a loop and using long end, sew to top of Apple.
- Using long end, sew Leaf to front of Apple. Weave in all ends.
