FREE Crochet Pattern – Bottle Top Trivets

 

Materials: Size 10 Crochet Thread (Knit-Cro-Sheen):
Shaded Purples – 750 yds (686 m)Hunters Green – 300 yds (275 m) 84 Bottle Caps (54- Large, 30- Medium, 19- Pot Holder) Thread Needle
Crochet Hook:Steel size 7 (1.65 mm)
BOTTLE CAP COVERS
Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, ch 4, 19 dc in 4th ch from hook; join to top of ch-4 (20 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as joining, * sc in next 4 dc, 2 sc in next dc; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. (24 sc)
Rnds 3-6: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join.
Rnd 7: Ch 3, (dc in next sc) around; join. Finish off leaving long end.
– Insert bottle cap in wrong side of cover, solid side of cap to front.
– Using long end, sew up opening by gathering last round, pulling tight and fastening.
LEAF (Make 2)
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Hunters Green, ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook, (sc in next ch) across to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, working in unused lps on opposite side of starting ch, (sc in next ch) across to last 2 ch. Leave rem 2 ch unworked.
Rows 2-8: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc to center sc of 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each remaining sc to last 2 sc. Leave rem 2 sc unworked.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc to center sc of 3-sc group, sl st in center sc. Finish off leaving long end on one Leaf.
– With right sides of both leaves facing (wrong sides together), using long end, sew around outer edges.
LARGE MAT
– Using Shaded Purple Thread, make and cover 54 bottle caps.
– Make 3 sets of Leaves.
– Using picture as guide, sew covered caps together and sew Leaves to mat.
MEDIUM MAT
– Using Shaded Purple Thread, make and cover 30 bottle caps.
– Make 3 sets of Leaves.
– Using picture as guide, sew covered caps together and sew Leaves to mat.

    I had hoped that this pattern would come up. My mom had one, made by her sister from beer caps from a family picnic many years ago. It got misplaced during the cleanup when my mom passed away recently, but at least I can now recreate it and bring back the memories.
