Watermelon Slice Scrubby Free Crochet Pattern

Skill Level: Easy

Crocheted in rounds, this watermelon Scrubby won’t take long to make, but will save you time at the kitchen sink. The polyester fiber is easy on your hands but tough on pots and pans. Keep it fresh by machine washing and air drying.

Materials:

RED HEART® Scrubby Sparkle™: 1 ball each 8929 Strawberry A, 8690 Avocado B, and 8012 Licorice C Note Only a small quantity of B and C are needed for this project.

Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]

Yarn needle

Stitch marker

Fabric sealant (optional)

Gauge/Tension:     Gauge is not critical for this project.

Scrubby measures 6½” in diameter.

Special Technique

Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

SCRUBBY

With A, ch 2.

Round 1 (right side): Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with slip st in first sc—6 sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around; join with slip st in first sc—12 sc.

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—18 sc.

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—24 sc.

Round 5: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—30 sc.

Round 6: Ch 1, sc in first 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—36 sc.

Round 7: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—42 sc.

Round 8: Ch 1, sc in first 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—48 sc.

Round 9: Ch 1, sc in first 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—54 sc. Fasten off.

Round 10: With right side facing, join B with sc in any st, sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts; repeat from * around to last 4 sts, sc in last 4 sts; join with slip st in first sc—60 sc.

Round 11: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts; repeat from * around to last 4 sts, sc in last 4 sts; join with slip st in first sc—66 sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

With C, embroider 2 straight stitches over any sc in Round 6, taking care to completely cover sc. On wrong side of piece, weave yarn through next 5 sts of same round and embroider 2 straight stitches over next sc. Repeat 4 times.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Optional: apply a few drops of fabric sealant to ends of tails of seeds to prevent unraveling.
