4” (10 cm) wide piece of cardboard for making Fringe

Keep your warm weather table looking fresh with this pretty table runner. Crochet it in other colors to suit the season or room décor.

Gauge/Tension:     GAUGE: 27 sts = 5” (13 cm); 11 rows worked in shell pattern = 4” (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Runner measures 45” (114 cm) long by 20” (51 cm) wide.

Note

Carry unused color alongside of work to be covered by Fringe later.

Special Technique

Change color: At end of stitch, with 2 loops left on hook, drop first color; pick up new color, yarn over, draw new color through both loops to complete the stitch.

RUNNER

With A, ch 212.

Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each in ch across; turn—211 sc.

Row 2 (Wrong Side): Ch 1, sc in first sc, *skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc (shell made), skip 2 sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; change to B in last st (see Special Technique), turn—36 sc, 35 shells.

Row 3 (Right Side): Ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same first st, *skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip 2 dc**, 5 dc in next sc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 3 dc in last sc; turn—6 dc, 35 sc, 34 shells.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *skip 2 dc, 5 dc in next sc, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across; change to A in last st, turn—36 sc, 35 shells.

Row 5 (Right Side): Ch 3, 2 dc in same first st, *skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip 2 dc**, 5 dc in next sc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 3 dc in last sc; turn—6 dc, 35 sc, 34 shells.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *skip 2 dc, 5 dc in next sc, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across; change to B in last st, turn—36 sc, 35 shells.

Rows 7-50: Repeat Rows 3-6 consecutively.

Rows 51-52: Repeat Rows 3-4. Fasten off B.

Row 53: With A, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 2 hdc in same first st, *hdc in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, skip next dc, hdc in next dc, 3 hdc in next sc; repeat from * across; do not fasten off, turn—178 hdc, 35 sc.

FIRST EDGING

Row 1 (Wrong Side): Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

SECOND EDGING

Attach A on Right Side of opposite side of foundation chain on Row 1 of Runner.

Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

FRINGE

Wrap A around cardboard 108 times. Wrap B around cardboard 108 times. Cut one side for Fringe. Working from the Wrong Side, hold 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B together and fold in half. Insert hook through edge of Runner and draw folded ends of strands through to form loop. Thread ends of strands through loop and pull ends to tighten. Trim Fringe evenly.

Referring to photo for placement, add Fringe to both sides of each stripe and Edgings.

FINISHING

Weave in loose ends and block.
