Holiday Striped Throw

Here’s an easy throw that will be enjoyed during the holidays when your entire home takes on the warm feeling of the season. Made in rows of shells, it won’t take long to crochet this festive warmer.

Required Supplies:
  • RED HEART® Classic™: 5 skeins 917 Cardinal A; 3 skeins 912 Cherry Red B; 2 skeins each 689 Forest Green C and 686 Paddy Green D
  • Crochet Hook: 3.75mm [US F-5]
  • Yarn needle
GAUGE: 4 dc clusters = 4″; 10 rows = 4″ in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Throw measures 42” x 57”.
Special Abbreviations

Double shell = (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in same st or space.

Triple shell = (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in same st or space.
THROW

Row 1 (Right Side): With A ch 152; 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch; repeat from * across; turn. Fasten off.

Row 2: With C, ch 1, sc in first dc, * ch 1, skip next dc, sc in next dc **, ch 1, skip ch-1 space, sc in next dc; repeat from * across, end at ** working last sc in top of ch-3; turn. Fasten off.

Row 3: With B, ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 space, * ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, 3 dc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * across; turn. Fasten off.

Row 4: With D, repeat Row 2.

Row 5: With A, repeat Row 3.

Row 6: With C, repeat Row 2.

Row 7: With D, ch 1, sc in first sc, * ch 1, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; turn. Fasten off.

Row 8: With B, repeat Row 3.

Row 9: With D, repeat Row 2.

Row 10: With C, repeat Row 7.

Row 11: With A, repeat Row 3.

Repeat Rows 2-11 thirteen times. Fasten off.
Border

Round 1: (Note: If you have trouble getting a multiple of 6 + 5 sts, then work an odd number instead and adjust sts as necessary on Round 7.) With right side facing, join B in top left corner to work down long left edge; ch 1, * (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, work a multiple of 6 + 5 sts to corner, working (ch 1, sc) in each dc or ch-3 and sc in each sc; (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, work a multiple of 6 + 5 sc to corner, working sc in each ch or st across short edge to corner; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc; TURN.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc and ch-1 space around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 space; join in first sc. Fasten off.

Round 3: With right side facing, join D in any corner ch-2 space; ** ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner space, * ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * to next corner; repeat from ** around; ch 1; join. Fasten off.
Round 4: With wrong side facing, join B in any sc; ch 1, sc in each sc and ch-1 space around, working 3 sc in each corner ch-3 space; join. Fasten off.

Round 5: With right side facing, join C in center corner sc; ** ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center corner sc, * ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * to next corner; repeat from ** around; ch 1; join. Fasten off.

Round 6: With wrong side facing, join A in any corner space; ch 1, 2 sc in same space, sc in each sc and ch-1 space around, working 3 sc in each corner ch-3 space except work 1 more sc in beginning corner space; join; TURN.

Round 7 (Right Side): Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in same sc as joining, ** skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, * double shell in next sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc; repeat from * to center corner sc; triple shell in center corner sc; repeat from ** around; join in top of ch-3; TURN.

Round 8: ** Dc in next sc, * double shell in next ch-2 space, dc in next sc; repeat from * to corner; skip next dc, double shell in next dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner space, skip next dc, double shell in next dc; repeat from ** around; join in first dc; TURN.

Round 9: Ch 3, ** double shell in next space, triple shell in next ch-3 space, * double shell in next space ***, dc in next dc; repeat from * to next corner; repeat from ** around, end at ***; join in top of ch-3; do NOT turn.

Round 10: Ch 2, (slip st, ch 3, slip st) in next ch-2 space, ** ch 2, slip st in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, (slip st, ch 5, slip st) in corner ch-2 space, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, slip st in next dc, * ch 2, (slip st, ch 3, slip st) in next ch-2 space, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, slip st in next dc between shells; repeat from * to corner triple shell; repeat from ** around. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
