Holiday Tree Skirt

Crochet a lovely lacy tree skirt for the perfect finish to your holiday tree. Use our cool color palette or any colors that fit your decorating style.

  • RED HEART® Celebration: 1 ball each of 9840 Blue/Silver A, 9240 Lime/Silver B, and 9340 Aqua/ Silver C (Celebration is discontinued)
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9] and 6 mm [US J-10] for Tie
  • Yarn needle
GAUGE: Row 5 = 3½” (9 cm) across; First 5 rows = 3¼” (8.5 cm) from base of Row 1 to shell point in Row 5. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Tree Skirt Measures 38” (96.5 cm) in diameter
Special Abbreviations

small shell (sm shell): (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st or space.

medium shell (med shell): (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same st or space.

large shell (lg shell): (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same st or space.

ch-2 join: Ch 1, drop loop from hook, insert hook in corresponding ch-2 space on previous Panel, draw dropped loop through, ch 1.

ch-4 join: Ch 2, drop loop from hook, insert hook in corresponding ch-4 space on previous Panel, draw dropped loop through, ch 2.

With smaller hook and A, ch 8.

Row 1: Working in back loops of ch sts, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 6 ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in next sc, skip next sc, sm shell in next sc, skip next sc, dc in each of last 2 sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, sm shell in next shell space, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn.

Tie

With one strand of each color held together as one, and larger hook, leaving a 7” (18 cm) tail,ch 190. Fasten off leaving a 7” (18 cm) tail.
FINISHING

With wrong side facing, block tree skirt lightly.

Weave Tie over and under ch-3 and ch-2spaces across top edge. Cut two 14” (35.5cm) lengths of each color. Holding one length of each color together, draw 3 strands through one end of Tie. Fold in half and tie in an overhand knot with tails. Trim to desired length. Repeat with other 3 strands on other end of tie. Tie in a bow to close up backopening.
