RED HEART Stripes: 1 Ball 944 Breezy Stripes A.RED HEART Pomp-a-Doodle: 1 Ball 9940 ShorelineB.
Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9].
5 Split-ring stitch markers, yarn needle.
Blo: Back loop only.
Scdec: [Pull up a loop in next st] 2 times; yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
NOTES
Do not join when working in rounds; place marker in 1st st to mark beginning of round and move marker up as work progresses.
When working with Pomp-a-Doodle, work st with yarn between pompoms. Do not pull pompoms through sts.
HAT
With A, ch 3; join with a slip st into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring – 6 sts.
Round 2: Slip st in each st around – 6 sts.
Round 3: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.
Round 4: * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 18 sts.
Round 5: * Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 24 sts.
Round 6: * Sc next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 30 sts.
Round 7: * Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 36 sts.
Round 8: * Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 42 sts.
Round 9: * Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 48 sts.
Round 10: * Sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 54 sts.
Round 11: Sc in each st around.
Round 12: * Sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 60 sts.
Rounds 13-14: Repeat Round 11.
Rounds 15-16: Working in blo, sc in each st around.
Round 17: Working in blo, * sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 66 sts.
Round 18: Repeat Round 15.
Round 19: * Sc in next 10 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 72 sts.
Rounds 20-22: Repeat Round 15.
Round 23: Repeat Round 15; fasten off. Mark 13th, 22nd, 50th, and 59th sts.
Earflaps
Row 1: With Right Side facing, join A in marked st (st 13), ch 1, sc in same st and in next 9 sts; turn – 10 sts.
Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, scdec in 1st 2 sts, sc in next 6 sts, scdec; turn – 8 sts.
Rows 5-7: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.
Row 8: Ch 1, scdec in 1st 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts, scdec; turn – 6 sts.
Row 9: Ch 1, scdec in 1st 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, scdec; turn – 4 sts.
Row 10: Ch 1, [scdec] 2 times – 2 sts. Fasten off.
Repeat Rows 1-10 for 2nd Earflap; beginning Row 1 in marked st 50.
FINISHING
Edging
Join A in final st of Round 23, ch 1, * (slip st, ch 1, slip st) in each st around to Earflap, (slip st, ch 1, slip st) in side of each row of Earflap, slip st in top of Row 10; ch 25, slip st in back ridge of 2nd ch from hook and in next 23 sts – tie made; slip st in top of Row 10, (slip st, ch 1, slip st) in each row continuing around Earflap; repeat from * around next Earflap; (slip st, ch 1, slip st) in each st around; join.
Fasten off.
Tie Decoration
Join B in 20th st of Tie, slip st in next 3 sts, turn to work up other side of Tie, slip st in next 4 sts. Fasten off. Repeat for other Tie.
Brim Decoration
Join B in front loop of last st on Rnd 23.
Round 1: Working in unused front loops of Hat only, slip st in each st around.
Rounds 2-4: Repeat Round 1.
Round 5: Repeat Round 1. Fasten off.
Tassel (Make 3)
Row 1: Join A in any st of Round 2 on Hat; ch 10. Fasten off A.
Row 2: Join B in 1st ch of Tassel, slip st in each ch.
Fasten off.
[Repeat Rows 1-2] twice, leaving 1 slip st of Round 2 between Tassels.
