Skill: Easy

Size: 5 ½” wide x 5” long

Materials: Small amount of Fiberfill; Craft or Hot Glue; Yarn Needle; Worsted Weight Yarn; Yellow (Y) – 1 ¾ oz, 96 yd (49 g, 86 m); Black (B) – 1 yd (.9 m); White (W) – 2 ½ yds (2 ¼ m); Small amount Green (G).

Crochet Hook: Size G-6 (4.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge Swatch: Swatch should measure 4” x 2”.

Row 1: Ch 15, dc in 4th ch from hook, and in each ch across.  (13 dc)

Row 2: Turn, beg pc, (ch 1, skip next dc, pc in next dc) across.  (7 pc)

Row 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in next ch-1 sp, (2 dc in next ch-1 sp) across, dc in top of beg pc. (13 dc)

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

To Change Colors

Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

Special Stitches

Beginning Popcorn (Beg pc): Ch 3, 3 dc in same st, drop lp from hook, insert hook in top of ch-3, pick up dropped lp, draw through st.

Popcorn (pc): 4 dc in next st, drop lp from hook, insert hook in top of first st of 4 dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through st.

Beehive

Rnd 1: Starting at top, with Y, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with sl st to first sc. (8 sc)

Rnd 2: Beg pc in first sc, ch 1, (pc in next sc, ch 1) 7 times; join with sl st to beg pc. (8 pc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc now, and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, skip next sc, (3 dc in next sc, skip next sc) around; join with sl st to top of ch-3. (24 dc)

Rnd 4: Beg pc, ch 1, skip next dc, (pc, ch 1, skip next dc) around; join with sl st to top of beg pc.

(12 pc)

Rnd 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in first ch-1 sp, 3 dc in each ch-1 sp around; join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Rnd 6: Beg pc, ch 1, skip next dc, (pc, ch 1, skip next dc) around; join with sl st to beg pc. (18 pc)

Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in first ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each ch-1 sp around; join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 6.  Finish off and weave in ends.

Base

Rnd 1: With Y, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 3, 11 dc in ring; join with sl st to first dc.

(12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in first dc, 2 dc in each dc around; join with sl st first dc. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around; join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)  Finish off and weave in ends.

Finishing

– Fill Beehive with Fiberfill.

– With wrong sides facing, being careful to match stitches, sew Base to bottom of Beehive.

Bee Body

Row 1 (Right Side): With B, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch; drop B, change to Y.

Row 2: With Y, ch 1, turn, 2 sc in next 2 sc; drop Y, change to B. (4 sc)

Row 3: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across; drop B, change to Y.

Row 4: With Y, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across; drop Y, change to B, finish off Y.

Row 5: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.  Finish off leaving long end.

Using long end, curl piece and sew ends of Rows together.

Wings

With Y, ch 1 (center st), (ch 8, sl st in center st) twice. Finish off leaving long end.

Flower

Rnd 1 (Right Side): With Y, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off.

Rnd 2: With right side facing, join W with sl st to any sc, (ch 3, dc, ch 3, sl st) in same st as joining, [(sl st, ch 3, dc, ch 3, sl st) in next sc]

In each sc around. Finish off and weave in all ends.

Leaves

With G, ch 1 (center st), (ch 10, sl st in center st) twice. Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing USE PHOTO AS A GUIDE

– Using long ends, sew Wings to Bee Body and sew Leaves to Flower.

– Use craft or hot glue to attach Bee and Flower to Pincushion.
