Size:
About 30” wide by 40” long

Materials:
Bulky Weight Yarn: Cream (MC) – 46 oz, 630 yds; Blue (CC) – 46 oz, 630 yds; Felt – ¼ yd each of Red and Black; White Buttons – 8 (for eyes); White Embroidery Thread – for Noses.

Crochet Hook:
Size J-10 (6.00 mm)

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

RUG

Row 1:
(Right Side) Starting at one side with a double strand of MC, make a chain 30” long, sc in 2nd ch from hook (sc in next ch) across until row measures 24 inches. Cut off the remaining chain.

Row 2:
Ch 1 turn, sc in each sc across.

Repeat Row 2 until Rug measures 34 inches. Finish off and weave in ends.

Border

Rnd 1:
With right side facing, join single strand CC with sl st to any corner, 3 sc in corner, sc evenly around entire rug, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st to back loop of first sc. (Mark this stitch)

Rnds 2-10:
Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc corner group. DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH ROUND.

At the end of Rnd 10, join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

Loops

With right side facing, join single stand CC to front lp of marked st, * ch 5, sc in same lp, ch 5, sc in next lp; rep from * around and around, until Border is completely covered in loops. Finish off and weave in ends.

Finishing – Use photo as guide.

– Line back of mat with unbleached cotton or muslin to keep it flat (optional)

– Using Black Felt, cut out 8 Scotty Dogs as shown in diagram.

– Using Red Felt, cut out 8 collars as in diagram.

– Cut 4 strips Red Felt 3/8 inch wide for leashes in varying length.

– Using photo as guide, sew Dogs, Collars and Leashes on Rug.

– Use buttons for eyes and embroider noses on each Dog.
