Finally the day you have been waiting for – the Santa Pillow is finished!  Here is the complete finished version of the Santa Pillow crochet pattern.  I think it came out really cute.  The reindeer is my favorite.  With the complete pattern you can now crochet this craft project in plenty of time for Christmas.  Family and friends will be delighted.

Skill: Intermediate

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn

Cardinal Red (CR) – 9 oz, 470 yd (255 g, 423 m)
Medium Thyme (MT) – 7 oz, 365 yd (200 g, 335 m)
Soft White (SW) – 1½ oz, 78 yd (42 g, 70 m)
Tan (T) – 1 oz, 52 yd (28 g, 48 m)
Medium Brown (MB) – ½ oz, 26 yd (14 g, 24 m)
Small amount Cherry Red (R) and Black (B).
Red Heart Classic and Red Heart Supersaver used in model.
Additional Materials: Yarn Needle; 18 inch square pillow form; 9 mm Eyes – 4; Powder Blush.

Crochet Hook:Size G-6 (4.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 7 hdc = 2 inches; 5 rows hdc = 2 inches



JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
TO CHANGE COLORS
Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

Special Stitches
Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc dec): Keeping last loop of each st on hook, hdc in next 2 sts, yo and pull through 3 loops on hook.


PILLOW
BACK
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at bottom, with CR, ch 65; hdc in 2nd ch from hook, (hdc in next ch) across. (64 hdc)
Rows 2-48: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across.
At the end of Row 48, finish off and weave in ends.


PILLOW FRONT
Top Strip
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at short side edge, with CR, ch 9, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, (hdc in next ch) across. (8 hdc)
Rows 2-6: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across.
At the end of Row 6, change color to MT. Carry CR.
Rows 7-12: With MT, ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across.
At the end of Row 12, drop MT and pick up CR.
Rows 13-18: With CR, ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across.
At the end of Row 18, drop CR and pick up MT.
Rows 19-42: Rep Rows 7-18 twice.
At the end of Row 42, drop CR and pick up MT.
Rows 43-48: Rep Rows 7-12.
At the end of Row 48, finish off and leave long end (for sewing across).


Bottom Strip


Rows 1-48: Rep Rows 1-48 of Top Strip. At the end of Row 48, DO NOT FINISH OFF.
Body of Pillow
Row 1: Ch 1, working in sides of rows over dropped yarn, work 8 hdc evenly across each color stripe.
(64 hdc)
Rows 2-32: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across. (64 hdc)
At the end of Row 32, finish off and weave in ends.
Assembly of Front
With right sides of Top Strip and top of Body of Pillow together, working over the carried color loops of Top Strip, whipstitch 8 hdc sts to each color block across.


REINDEER
BODY
Row 1:(Right Side) Starting at top, with Tan, ch 8, dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped ch counts as first dc), hdc in next 3 ch, 2 dc in last ch. (7 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1 turn, 2 hdc in 1st dc, (hdc in next st) across to last dc, 2 hdc in last dc. (9 hdc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc across. (9 hdc)
Rows 4-5: Rep Rows 2-3. DO NOT FINISH OFF.
Body Edging
Rnd 1: With right side facing, working in sides of rows, evenly work 8 sc, working in unused lps of starting chain, sc in next 5 ch, working in sides of rows on opposite side, evenly work 8 sc; join with sl st to first hdc of Row 5. Finish off leaving long end.


MOUTH

Assembly of Reindeer Head – use photo as guide
– Sew Nose to Mouth piece.
– With B, using back-stitch, embroider mouth outline.
– Attach Eyes to Head.
– Sew Ears to Head.
– Sew straight edge of Head to Mouth piece.
– Apply Blusher to cheeks.


SANTA
BODY
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at bottom, with CR, ch 36, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, (hdc in next ch) across. (34 hdc)
Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, hdc dec (using first hdc and next hdc), (hdc in next hdc) across to last 2 hdc, hdc dec. (32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22 hdc) DO NOT FINISH OFF.


Body Edging
Rnd 1: With right side facing, ch 1, (do not turn), working in sides of rows, evenly work 10 sc across to bottom, working in unused lps of starting ch, (sc, ch 1, sc) in first ch, (sc in next ch) across to last ch, (sc ch 1 sc) in last ch, working in sides of row, evenly work 10 sc; join with sl st to first sc of Row 7. Finish off leaving long end for sewing to Pillow.


FACE
Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Tan, ch 4; join with sl st to first ch to form ring; ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 13 dc in ring; join with sl st to first dc. (14 dc)

TONGUE
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with R, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 4 sc in last ch, working in unused lp of starting ch on opposite side, sc in next ch. Finish off leaving long end for sewing to Face.


NOSE
Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Tan, ch 2, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off leaving long end for sewing to Face.
Assembly of Face – use photo as guide
– Using long ends, sew Tongue to bottom of Moustache and Nose to top of Moustache.
– Position Moustache on Face and using long end, sew in place.
– Attach Eyes to Face.
– Apply Blusher to cheeks.


CUFFS
(Make 2)

Pillow Front Assembly
– use photo as guide
– With right side of Pillow Front facing, sew pieces in this order:
1. Santa Body
2. Reindeer Body
3. Santa’s complete Head so that bottom 2 scallops of Beard overlap Santa Body.
4. Santa’s Pom-Pom at end of Hat.
5. Santa’s Cuffs with Mittens on top of Cuffs – on both sides.
6. Reindeer’s Complete Head.
7. Reindeer’s Antlers.


Finish Pillow
– use photo as guide
– When front of pillow is complete, with right sides together, sew Front piece to Back piece across 3 sides. Turn inside out so right sides are facing and insert pillow form. Sew remaining side closed.
