Susan Bates® Steel Crochet Hook: 1.5mm [US 7]

Yarn needle

Additional Supplies Needed:

1 oval bead 20mm long, 1″ (2.5cm) diameter; 2 bead connectors, 2″ (5cm) long; 4mm gold chain, 36″ (91cm) long; 2 gold bead caps, 12mm diameter; 1 necklace closure set; 4 split rings, 4mm diameter; Needle nose pliers

Crochet beautiful motifs and create a necklace that makes a lovely statement. Choose whatever color crochet thread to coordinate with a mundane garment and give it a new look.

Gauge/Tension:     GAUGE: Gauge is not essential for this project

Necklace measures 22” (56 cm) long.

Prepare Jewelry Bottom gold chain:  Cut 5” (13 cm) gold chain to join both motifs 4.

Center gold chains: Slide bead connector into oval bead, add bead caps on each side, and form connectors on each end to a circle. Connect ½” (1 cm) gold chain to each end to join both motifs 5.

Top gold chain: Cut 2” (5 cm) to join both motifs 2.

Side chains (2): Sew split ring to motif 1, add two 7” (18 cm) gold chains, join both gold chains with split ring at other end and add closure.

Motif 1 (make 2)

Ch 5, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with slip st in first sc—10 sc.

Rnd 2: (Ch 3, dc) in first sc, (ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next sc,*3 dc in next sc, (ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next sc; repeat from * 3 times more, dc in same st as beginning ch-3, join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 7, (dc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, dc) in sc, skip next dc,*sc in next dc, ch 7, (dc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, dc) in sc, skip next dc; repeat from * 3 times more, join with slip st in beginning sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, work (sc, ch 2, dc, [ch 1, dc] 6 times, ch 2, sc) in each ch-7 space around, join with slip st in beginning sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc in ch-2 space, sc in ch-1 space, 2 sc in each of next 4 ch-1 spaces, sc in ch-1 space, sc in ch-2 space; repeat from * 4 times more, join with slip st in beginning sc.

Fasten off.

Motif 2 (make 2)

Ch 5, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with slip st in first sc—10 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 6, skip sc; repeat from * 3 times more, sc in next sc, slip st in next st, join with slip st in beginning ch-1.

Rnd 3: Work (slip st, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2, slip st, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 3, slip st) in each ch-6 space around.

Fasten off.

Motif 3 (make 2)

Ch 21.

Rnd 1: Tr in 6th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2, tr in next ch, [ch 2, skip 2, dc in next ch] 3 times, ch 2, sc in last ch.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in each of next 5 ch-2 spaces, 8 sc in beginning ch-5 space (where ch were skipped); working in opposite side of ch, work 2 sc in each of next 5 ch-2 spaces, sc in sc, join with slip st in beginning ch-1.

Fasten off.

Motif 4 (make 2)

Ch 5, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with slip st in first sc—10 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 6, skip sc; repeat from * 2 times more, sc in next sc, slip st in next 3 sts, join with slip st in beginning ch-1.

Rnd 3: Work (slip st, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2, slip st, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 3, slip st) in each ch-6 space around.

Fasten off.

Motif 5 with Stem (make 2)

Ch 16.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, slip st in same st as last sc, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, work 9 dc in ch-2 space, turn.

Row 3: [Ch 3, dc3tog over next 3 dc, ch 3, work slip st in same dc] 3 times.

Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

Sew pieces together according to photo.

Sew finished motives to prepared jewelry as directed. Weave in ends.
