RED HEART® Baby Econo®, 1 skein 1224 Baby Yellow or 1802 Baby Blue
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
Two ½” (12 mm) button, yarn needle, stitch marker
Directions are for newborn to 3 months. Bootie measures 1½” (3.8 cm) x 4” (10 cm).
GAUGE: 16 sc = 4” (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain gauge.
BOOTIES
Sole (Make 2) Ch 9.
Round 1:
Sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, 7 dc in last ch; working on opposite side of beginning ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch; join with slip st in first sc – 22 sts.
Round 2:
Ch 2 (counts as first st), [2 hdc in next sc] 3 times, hdc in next 4 sts, [2 hdc in next dc] 3 times, 3 hdc in next dc, [2 hdc in next dc] 3 times, hdc in next 4 sts, [2 hdc in next sc] 3 times; join with slip st in ch-2; mark ch-2 as center back st – 36 sts.
Fasten off.
Upper (Make 2)
Ch 24; join with slip st in first ch to form ring, taking care not to twist chain.
Round 1:
Ch 1, sc in first 10 ch, [2 sc in next ch] twice, sc in next ch, [2 sc in next ch] twice, sc in last 9 ch; join with slip st in first sc – 28 sc.
Round 2:
Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] twice, 3 sc in next sc, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] twice, sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in last sc; join with slip st in first st – 36 sc.
Round 3:
Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with slip st in first st.
Round 4:
With Wrong Sides of Upper and Sole together and sts aligned, ch 1, slip st in each st around; join with slip st in first st.
Fasten off. Weave in ends and turn right side out.
Right Bootie Strap
Ch 13; with Wrong Side facing, sc in 5th st BEFORE center back st, sc in next 10 sc; turn– 24 sts.
Next row:
Ch 1, sc in next 11 sc, sc in each ch to end, ch 3, slip st in last sc made (button loop created).
Fasten off.
Left Bootie Strap
With Wrong Side facing, join yarn with sc in 5th st BEFORE center back st, sc in next 10 sc, ch 17; turn – 28 sts.
Next row:
Sc in 4th ch from hook (button loop created) and in each st across – 24 sc.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew on buttons onto each side of strap. Weave in ends.
