RED HEART® “Super Saver®”: 2 Skeins 334 Buff A; 1 Skein each 313 Aran B and 319 Cherry Red C.
Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6] and 5.5mm [US 1-9].

Fiberfill, standard size pillow, two 1” buttons, 1½” diameter or doll safety eyes, hook & loop fastener, black embroidery thread, pompom maker, stitch markers, yarn needle.


Pillow Cover measures 14” x18”.

Pillow Cover fits standard size pillow.
GAUGE: 16 sc = 4”; 16 rows = 4” using smaller hook.CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Special Abbreviation:

sc2tog = [draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
NOTE: Pillow Pal can be used as a pillow unfastened or a stuffed friend with Closure Strap fastened. Pieces are worked separately. Leave long tails at end of each piece to sew pieces together. Pieces are worked in continuous rounds. Pillow Cover is meant to be smaller than pillow. Hat is worked in joined rounds in stripe pattern. When changing colors, work last step of last st of previous color with new color.

Head

Round 1: With smaller hook and A, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker for beginning of round – 6 sc.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 6 times – 18 sc.

Round 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] 6 times – 24 sc.

Round 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] 6 times – 30 sc.

Round 6: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts] 6 times – 36 sts.

Round 7: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts] 6 times – 42 sts.

Round 8: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts] 6 times – 48 sts.

Round 9: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts] 6 times – 54 sts.

Muzzle

With smaller hook and C, ch 15.

Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in same st, sc in next 12 ch, 4 sc in last ch, turn to work along opposite side of foundation ch, skip first ch, sc in next 12 ch, 2 sc in last ch, slip st in first st to join – 32 sts. Fasten off.

Round 2: Join B in first st, ch 1, sc in each st around, place marker for beginning of round.

Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 16 times – 48 sc.

Rounds 4-5: Sc in each st around.

Round 6: [Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] 12 times – 36 sts.

Round 7: Sc in 7 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 7 sts – 34 sts.

Round 8: Sc in each st around.

Round 9: Sc in 2 sts, [sc2tog, sc in next st] 10 times, sc in 2 sts – 24 sts.

Round 10: [Sc2tog, sc in next st] 8 times – 16 sts.

Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull in slightly. Knot to secure.
Ears (Make 2)

Round 1: With smaller hook and A, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker for beginning of round – 6 sc.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around – 18 sc.

Round 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] around – 24 sc.

Round 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] around – 30 sc.

Rounds 6-7: Sc in each st around.

Round 8: [Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts] 6 times – 24 sts.

Round 10: Sc in each st around. Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Hat

Round 1: With larger hook and B, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker for beginning of round – 6 sc.

Round 2: Change to A, ch 1, sc in same st, [2 sc in next st] 5 times, slip st in first st to join – 12 sts.

Round 3: Change to C, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 5 times, slip st in first st – 18 sts.

Round 4: Change to B, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 2 sts, [2 sc in st, sc in next 2 sts] 5 times, slip st in first st – 24 sts.

Round 5: Change to A, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 3 sts, [2 sc in st, sc in next 3 sts] 5 times, slip st in first st – 30 sts.

Round 6: Change to C, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 4 sts, [2 sc in st, sc in next 4 sts] 5 times, slip st in first st – 36 sts.

Round 7: Change to B, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 5 sts, [2 sc in st, sc in next 5 sts] 5 times, slip st in first st – 42 sts.

Rounds 9-17: Keeping in stripe pattern as established, ch 1, sc in each sc, slip st to first st.

Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail.

Make a pompom with C and sew on top of Hat.
Pillow Cover

With larger hook and A, ch 90.

Round 1: Hdc in 3rd chain from hook and each ch across, slip st to first st to join – 88 sts.

Rounds 2-49: Hdc in each st around. Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Closing Strap

With smaller hook and A, ch 8.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each sc across – 7 sts.

Rows 2-30: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Finishing

Using long tails, stuff Muzzle with fiberfill and sew on to lower portion of Head. Flatten Ears and sew on either side of Head.

Attach buttons or safety eyes on Head above Muzzle.

Using black embroidery thread and straight stitches, sew nostrils on Muzzle and eyebrows above eyes. Sew Hat to top of Head, stuffing lightly with fiberfill.

Sew last round of Pillow Cover closed. Insert pillow and sew opposite end closed. Sew Head in center of one long edge of Pillow Cover.

Sew one end of Closing Strap in center of one short side of Pillow Cover. Sew one side of hook and loop fastener to opposite end of Closing Strap. Sew corresponding side of hook and loop fastener to corresponding spot on opposite short side of Pillow Cover.

Weave in ends.
