Skill: Easy
Size: About 10″ wide and 7½” long
Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: Stripes – 2 oz, 100 yds (60 g, 92 m) (Sugar ‘n Cream – Natural Stripes)
Crochet Hook: Size I-9 (5.50 mm)
Special Stitches:
Single Crochet Decrease: (sc dec): Draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through 3 lps on hook.
DISHCLOTH:
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at base, ch 14, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [sc in next ch] across. (13 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, [sc in next sc] across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc. (15 sc)
Rows 4-9: Rep Rows 2-3 three times.
At the end of Row 9 there are 21 sc.
Rows 10-11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. (21 sc)
Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc dec (over first 2 sc), [sc in next sc] across to last 2 sc, sc dec. (19 sc)
Row 13: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. (19 sc)
Rows 14-15: Rep Rows 12-13 once. (17 sc)
Rows 16-18: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, [sc in next sc] across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc. (19, 21, 23 sc)
At the end of Row 18, ch 10, sl st in side of Row 10 (to form handle).
Row 19: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 10 ch, working in Row 18, sc in each sc across, ch 10, sl st in side of Row 10 (to form other handle). (33 sc and ch 10)
Row 20: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 10 ch, working in Row 19, sc in next 23 sc. (33 sc) Leave remaining sts unworked.
Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 11 sc, (hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc) in next sc (for knob), sc in next 11 sc. (22 sc and knob) DO NOT FINISH OFF.
TRIM
With right side facing, sc in next 10 sc (of handle); working in side of rows, evenly sc across; working in unused lps of starting ch, 2 sc in first ch, sl st in next ch, (sc, hdc) in next ch, (hdc, sc) in next ch, sl st in next ch, (sc, hdc) in next ch, dc in next ch, (hdc, sc) in next ch, sl st in next ch, (sc, hdc) in next ch, (hdc, sc) in next ch, sl st in next ch, 2 sc in last ch; working in side of rows, sc evenly across to handle, sc in each sc of handle, sc in side of next row,; working across Row 21, sc in each sc across; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Handles Trim
With right side facing, join yarn with sc in any st on inside of handle, sc in side of rows and each ch around, skipping corner st where necessary so that work lays flat; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
- Repeat on other handle.
