#321 Judy – The School Bus Driver – Maggie Weldon Maggies Crochet

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2011

Designer Linda K Kahle wrote: “ I would like to dedicate this School Bus Dishcloth to the person who gave me the LOVE of driving a School Bus. Her name is Judy Lister and she lives in Topeka Kansas. Judy had been a very good friend for years. And of course she was a School Bus driver for the Seaman School Dist #345 and had been a driver for years. I lost my job with AT&T (they closed a lot of stores). Judy said one day, Hey, come be a School Bus Driver. When I stopped laughing – a lot – she took me to talk to her boss. And the next thing I knew, I was a School Bus Driver. And that was over 27 years ago. And I can… still say today… that this has been the BEST JOB I have ever had. When I came to Tucson, I had to go through an interview. One of the safety people asked me: Why do you want to be a School Bus Driver? Well I’ve been one for about 16 years but I do have an answer to that question. I look him in the eye and said: I was born to be a School Bus Driver – it’s in my blood and it’s the Best Job ever. He just shook his head and laughed. I have always said from the first day, it’s all about the Kids. We the Bus Driver/Monitors are the first person they see in the mornings and the last one they see going home at the end of the school day. Our #1 job is the safety of our Students. In my eyes, you can’t have a Better Job anywhere when you’re working with Kids. They are OUR FUTURE.

Thank you Linda for joining the Dishcloth-A-Day Challenge!

That is a heart warming story and I love your dishcloth. My nephew Jake is 5 and very disappointed that he doesn’t get to ride the school bus until next year. I definetly will have to make him one. I love the look on his face when he says, ‘Is that for me, TeTe!!!’ Thanks for this wonderful design and your caring attitude for children.

I love this pattern. I drove a school bus for awhile and made school bus scarves that we a big hit. I can’t wait to get several of these made up for all my friends who still drive and love and enjoy their job as much as I did.
