Charleston Garden Crochet Afghan

Size: About 53 inches by 76 inches
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn:
Pinks (or any flower color) – 13 ozs, Golf Green – 13 ozs, Baby Blue – 38 ozs, Black – 26 ozs, Pink – 3 ozs
Crochet Hook:Size G-6 (4.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: Each motif about 7½ inches.
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

 

TO CHANGE COLORS
Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.
Special Stitches
popcorn (pc):
Work 4 dc in st indicated, remove loop from hook, insert hook in first dc, pick up dropped loop and pull through dc.
Shell: [(dc, ch 1) 3 times, dc] in same st or sp.
Corner Shell: [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in same st or sp.

 

Floral Motif (Make 70)
Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Shaded Pinks, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring, ch 3, 3 dc in ring, remove loop from hook, insert hook in 3rd ch of ch-3 and pull loop through (first popcorn made), ch 3, (pc in ring, ch 3) 3 times; join with sl st to first pc.
Rnd 2: * (Sc, 4 dc, sc) in next ch-3 loop; rep from * around, join.
Rnd 3: * Ch 4, working in back of petals over the 1st rnd, sc in lower center edge of petal, ch 4, sc between petals, rep from * around. (8 loops)
Rnd 4: * (Sc, 5 dc, sc) in next ch-4 lp; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 5: With right side facing, join Pink with sc to any st on Rnd 4, sc in next st around; join with sl st to first sc. (56 sc)
Rnd 6: With right side facing, working behind petals in Rnd 3, join Green with sl st to any sc, * ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 3 ch, working in Rnd 3, sc in next sc between petals; rep from * around.
Rnd 7: * Working in unused lps of next ch-7 on other side, sc in next 5 ch, 3 sc in sc at point of Leaf, sc in next 2 hdc, sc in next 3 dc; rep from * around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 8: With right side facing, join Baby Blue with sc in any center sc of 3-sc group at point of Leaf, 2 sc in same st as joining, * hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next sc, yo hook twice, skip next 2sc, insert hook in last sc on side of leaf, yo, work off 2 loops, yo hook, insert hook in 1st sc on next Leaf, work off all loops 2 at a time, skip next 2 sc, dc in next sc, hdc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 9: Ch 1, * sc in next 3 sc, hdc next 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 10: Ch 4, (2 tr, ch 1, 3 tr) in same st as joining, * (ch 1, pc in next dc) 3 times, ch 1, sc in 1st sc, sl st in next sc, sc in next sc, (ch 1, pc in next dc) 3 times, ch 1, (3 tr, ch 1, 3 tr) in center sc; rep from * around, omitting last shell on final repeat; join with sl st to first tr.
Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next st around, working (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in each corner; join. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 12: With right side facing, join Black to any sc of Rnd 11, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner; join.
Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next sc around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.
–  With right sides facing, sew motifs together – 7 motifs across, 10 rows of motifs.
Border
Rnd 1: With right side facing, join Black with sl st
to any corner, ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 3 times in same st as joining, dc in same st, ** skip 2 sc, Shell in next sc; rep from ** around, working Corner Shell in each corner; join with sl st to first dc. Finish off and weave in ends.
